This is the image for the news article titled P2 of the Week: Supporting Others When They StruggleUnder the guiding principles of our districtwide initiative, the Positivity Project, the #PositivityinAction mindset is a top priority. This week we will focus on the character strength of SUPPORTING OTHERS WHEN THEY STRUGGLE.

People with the character strength of supporting others when they struggle means that when they see other people struggle, they help them if they can.

The St. Clair Shores Goodfellows are a local group of volunteers who try to fulfill our mission of “No Kiddie without a Christmas” with their Annual Newspaper Sale.

Lake Shore staff, stationed at city intersections, sold their annual edition of The Goodfellows Newspaper for donations this past Saturday. With the money collected from the newspaper sale, they purchase food and gift cards.

A cup of hot chocolate, cider, or tea may be the perfect pick-me-up to start the day.  At the traveling Violet Cafe, students deliver free monthly beverages to staff under the supervision of Speech Teacher Ms. Boris and Resource Room Teacher Ms. Gray.  This is a sponsorship provided by their PTO, offered to students who continue to work on communications for the past two years.

Speech Teacher Mrs. Giorlando said, "The coffee cart has been an awesome way for our students to work on their social language skills and to carry over their good speech sounds, into spontaneous conversation with others! And I look forward to some much needed extra coffee and a treat! Seeing how proud our kids are to do this for their favorite teachers & staff makes me smile. It's been a great addition to our mornings at Violet."

Making children aware that every one of them has all 24 character strengths, provides the foundation for genuine self-confidence grounded in self-awareness and develops an #OtherPeopleMatter mindset.
