About North Lake High School
North Lake is administered by St. Clair Shores Adult & Community Education and Lake Shore Public Schools serves as the fiscal agent, with Lakeview Public Schools and South Lake Schools in consortium. The program is located in the Born Center.
North Lake High School is an alternative high school for students aged 16-19 who live in the tri-county area. Last year, students from 14 school districts attended North Lake.

North Lake High School Mission Statement
North Lake High School will provide an education with a learning community tailored to meet individual student needs, support a sense of belonging, and development of a positive self-image. Each student acquires the ability, knowledge, and character to excel in meeting the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing world.
Program Highlights
- Smaller class sizes
- Annual commencement ceremony alternating between Lake Shore, Lakeview, and South Lake Schools
- Flexible credit requirements allowing for students to complete on time or as a “5th” year senior
- Non-traditional credit earning potential through EDS testing and/or work credits for “5th” year seniors
- Staffed by seven highly qualified teachers
- Supported by the principal, a social worker, an academic advisor, a secretary, an office manager, and a hall monitor
- Curriculum centered on the four core academic areas of Math, Science, Social Studies, and English Language Arts plus Art and Health courses
- Extensive use of online learning through the E2020 program. Online learning offers the students an alternative way to learn, giving the students more control over the pace of the course. It also allows a greater variety of courses and more scheduling flexibility.
- Career Cruising
- Seminar class which builds a cohesive connection between students and school and offers real world skill building
- Parent Portal in PowerSchool enabling parents to view current progress, grades, and attendance for their student
- Student support groups led by the school social worker
- Guest speakers from various local organizations
- Outside of the classroom North Lake provides its students with the opportunity to experience intramural events through the ALNET organization and attend its prom
- Student council, which plans school activities such as Spirit Week, bake sales, and other events throughout the school year
- Scholarship opportunities for post-secondary education
- Free licensed child care to students who need the service
- Inter-agency cooperation with area parochial and public schools, community colleges and universities, local police departments and court systems, local shelters and programs for the homeless, abused, and substance dependent, alternative education organizations, community resources, Macomb/St. Clair Workforce Development Board
