Greetings and welcome to the new school year. As the new Lake Shore High School Choir Director, I would like to introduce myself. I am Mrs. DeLancey, a 2004 graduate of Alma College, where I received my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Music Education and currently working toward a Master's Degree in the Art of Teach at Marygrove College. I am honored to become a part of such an amazing and supportive staff, community and family of the Lake Shore Public Schools. I most recently taught with Holly Area Schools as the Vocal Music, Fine Arts and Choir Teacher at Sherman Middle School where, over the last three years, I have built the foundations of a strong and growing vocal music program through a standard of excellence, active recruiting, diverse programming and collaboration. I have also had the privilege to have my other teaching experiences at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in St. Clair Shores, Kelly Middle School in Eastpointe and as the Interim Choir Director at Rochester High School in Rochester, a well-established and highly respected vocal music program.
The upcoming year promises to be one of continued growth for the Lake Shore High School Choirs. Every fine choir has high standards in performance and behavior. Ours is no exception. The choir classes are ultimately performance-based classes and, as such, the necessary student participation goes beyond the scope of the normal classroom. In our class, students are expected to RESPECT myself, fellow students, the music that is performed, as well as the materials and facilities we use. It is also important that students commit themselves to a high standard of EXCELLENCE in bettering themselves as individuals and as musicians in our class and beyond. In doing this, students will find the choir class to be an enjoyable experience.
I am very excited about this year and the years ahead for the Lake Shore High School Choir Program. I look forward to the year’s events as well as getting to know the students and parents. Here’s to a fun and successful year!
