Points of Pride

• 2010-11 Kennedy Middle School Basketball team went 12-0!
• 2011-11 was a great year for the KMS Band:

  7th gr. Concert Band received a straight First Division ("I") rating at the MSBOA District 16 Band Festival.

  8th gr. Wind Ensemble received an overall First Division ("I") rating at the MSBOA District 16 Band Festival

  The Jazz Ensemble received a straight First Division ("I") rating at the MSBOA State Jazz Festival.

  Kennedy has the only middle school band program in Michigan to receive ratings this high in BOTH jazz and concert band groups.

  The Jazz Ensemble performed at the non-competitive Thornapple Jazz Festival in Hastings, and participated in a clinic session by Dr. Brian Coyle.

  The 8th gr. Wind Ensemble toured Chicago, IL in April for three days, and participated in a clinic session at VanderCook College with Dr. Charles Menghini.  Dr. Menghini praised the ensembles abilities and said that he greatly enjoyed working with them.

• We held a Scholastic Book Fair.
• We observed a Teen Read Week.
• We have a Book-of-the-Month Club.
• W.A.L.K. (We Are Literate Kids) is a program in which students listen to audio books while walking. The program is made possible by a grant from the Lake Shore Foundation for Educational Excellence.
• We have a school-wide recycling initiative.
• Over 100 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls attended the "Career Exploration Symposium for Middle School Girls in Mathematics, Science, and Technology” at the Macomb Intermediate School District.
• Three students participated in Macomb County's "You Be the Chemist" competition.
• NJHS raised $560 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
• NJHS collected 400 toys for the Lighthouse Outreach Center in Roseville.
