Points of Pride

• Kennedy Middle School successfully completed the NCA Quality Assurance Review last spring.
• We held a Scholastic Book Fair.
• We observed a Teen Read Week.
• We have a Book-of-the-Month Club.
• W.A.L.K. (We Are Literate Kids) is a program in which students listen to audio books while walking. The program is made possible by a grant from the Lake Shore Foundation for Educational Excellence.
• We have a school-wide recycling initiative.
• The wrestling team became league champions.
• The 49 students in the 6th Grade Chorus learned, memorized, choreographed and performed seven pieces of music at their spring concert on May 20, 2009.
• The 57 students in the 7th Grade Chorus learned, memorized, choreographed and performed seven pieces of music for their winter concert on December 17, 2008. The concert featured songs from several different countries in several different languages.
• The 37 students in the 7th Grade Concert Choir learned, memorized, choreographed and performed seven pieces of music for their spring concert on May 20, 2009.
• The 18 students in the 8th Grade Concert Choir learned, memorized, choreographed and performed seven pieces of music for their winter concert on December 17, 2008. The concert featured songs from several different countries in several different languages.
• This year we expanded our exploratory guitar class for 8th grade from one class to two. Twenty students took guitar for the first 10-week class and 22 students took guitar for the second 10-week class. The students were very successful in learning basic musical theory skills and playing techniques.
• Over 100 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls attended the "Career Exploration Symposium for Middle School Girls in Mathematics, Science, and Technology” at the Macomb Intermediate School District.
• Three students participated in Macomb County's "You Be the Chemist" competition.
• Fourteen students participated in the Science Olympiad, placing in two events.
• NJHS raised $560 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
• NJHS collected 400 toys for the Lighthouse Outreach Center in Roseville.
